About Matt

Wood-Tang.com is the personal website of Matt Wood, a writer living in Chicago. I am the blog editor and former managing editor for TriQuarterly Online, and my work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, The Best Creative Nonfiction, Vol. 3, Oprah.com, Elysian Fields Quarterly, Chicagoist, and many others. In 2010 I was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. You can see a full list of my freelance work, literary publications, and works in anthology on my clips page.
I work in IT by day, though as you’ll notice from the content of many of these essays, I took a four-year break to stay at home with my son Carter and daughter Sadie while freelancing and supporting my wife Debbie’s real estate business. I graduated from the Master of Arts in Creative Writing program at Northwestern University in 2007, where my final thesis, “Through an Unlocked Door,” won the Distinguished Thesis Award (a shorter version of which is forthcoming in the South Loop Reivew). I finished my undergraduate work at Indiana University in 1999, earning bachelor’s degrees in computer information systems, business process management, and operations management, with a minor in history. Born and raised in a small town called Poseyville, Indiana, I grew up on basketball, popcorn, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
This site used to be a typical blog with lots of links and navel-gazing, but I’ve since realized that much of that stuff is better suited for social-networking sites. I still post longer essays sometimes, but if you really want to stalk me these days, check out my contact page for other ways to reach me.
Thanks for stopping by,
Matt Wood
